WHO ARE WE
We are a non-profit organization that promotes, preserves, and supports the history and heritage of the Dacada, Wisconsin community. We strive to educate and engage people from around the world. We want to provide an opportunity for those who have moved away to stay connected, foster the connection Dacada has to Luxembourg, assist in maintenance, preservation, and mission of the St. Nicholas Chapel and the surrounding buildings and land of the community, and create opportunities to continue traditions.
Dacada, Wisconsin, is an unincorporated community located in the towns of Belgium and Holland in Ozaukee and Sheboygan counties. It is east of Random Lake and northwest of Belgium. The community was settled by immigrants from Luxembourg in the 1840s and 1850s, and the name is derived from "Dakota." Early residents built a Catholic church, known as St. Nicholas, in 1849. The original church was a log cabin, replaced by a stone church in 1863, and again in 1911. Dacada is split between Sheboygan and Ozaukee counties, with local residents noting that they were baptized in Sheboygan County and buried in Ozaukee. The community is known for its peaceful atmosphere and outdoor activities, making it a great spot for nature enthusiasts.
